Echelon is not a typical space combat game. It is not conducted in the inky blackness of space, nor does it allow the player to roam freely from one heavenly body to another. Instead, the action unfolds on and just slightly above the surface of a single planet -- the hotly contested Velian -- where the well-armed natives are restless enough to threaten the sanctity of an entire galaxy.
