The story in Operation Flashpoint may seem a bit over the top for some ñ itís 1985, and an insurgency against the Soviet government has caused Gorbachev to ask NATO to send peacekeepers to troubled areas for suppression of rebel forces. Whether the storyís believable or not, the action surely is ñ with combat so real you may want to put on a flak jacket before pressing your computerís power button. Graphically the game is packed with features and effects designed to enhance the realism of the battlefield. Weather and daylight change with the passage of time, most weapons have a close-in aiming mode, and all vehicles have individually rendered interiors. In addition vehicles all function the way they should and can be operated by more than one person over a LAN connection. Any vehicle found on the battlefield can be commandeered, from tanks to jeeps to tractors, and in another bit of advanced AI the local folk may react differently to you depending on the vehicle used. Nobody likes to see tanks riding down main street of their town. But don¥t expect the quality of a flight- or tank-sim. |
