A 3rd-person RPG / adventure title by way of Spain, Blade of Darkness incorporates dynamic lighting and barrels full of blood effects into one moody little dungeon romp. Select from four classes, namely Barbarian, Knight, Amazon and Dwarf to launch your solo assault on an army of foul fantasy beasts. Each class, naturally, excels at different attributes and weapons. For example, the Amazon is handy with the bow and quarterstaff, while we surmise Dwarf is a powerhouse of stamina and good-old skull bashing. Speaking of skull bashing, you can use everything from swords to craniums and even hacked-off enemy limbs for weapons. If you’re into gore and corpse mutilation, this game is definitely worth a look. Also useful are torches, which you can fling ahead to confuse monsters or light flammable objects as waypoints. The basic combat engine is well done and requires more strategy than your usual hack n’slash.
